Lahemaa National Park sits about 70km east of Tallinn, and most travel advice assumes you're driving. I went without a car and it was entirely doable — just required a bit more planning.
Estonian cuisine is hearty, seasonal, and rooted in the Baltic pantry — think black bread, smoked fish, and dairy in every form. Some of it is genuinely excellent. Some of it is an acquired taste I never quite acquired.
Tartu is Estonia's second city and university town, and it's significantly cheaper than Tallinn for accommodation. Here are the options I found that offered real value — not just the cheapest beds, but the best combination of price, location, and character.
Saaremaa is Estonia's largest island and one of its most beloved destinations — quiet, unspoiled, and still agricultural in a way that feels rare in modern Europe. Getting there involves a short ferry crossing that has its own particular logic.
Pärnu is Estonia's summer capital — which means in October, it's wonderfully empty. The beach is still there, the cafés are still open, and the prices are considerably lower.
